The Jenkintown Fire Department is an all volunteer department consisting of the Pioneer Fire Company #1 and the Independent Fire Company #2. The Pioneer Company was organized in 1884 and the Independent Company was organized in 1889.
The fire department has a total membership of approximately 150 with 50 members being the active firefighting crew.

The fire department provides fire suppression, rescue and prevention to the borough.
In addition to fire and rescue, the fire department also sponsors the Annual Jenkintown 4th of July Parade and Celebration.
The Jenkintown Fire Department has
responded to 272 calls for the year 2006. Of these fire calls, The
Jenkintown Fire Department has assisted Abington Fire Company 11 times, McKinley
Fire Company 33 times, LaMott Fire Company 7 times, Elkins Park Fire Company 3
times, Glenside Fire Company 3 times, Willow Grove Fire Company 2 times, Ogontz
Fire Company 1 time, & Roslyn Fire Company 1 time.
For the above fire calls, a total of
5336 firefighters responded. Pioneer Fire Company had an average of 13
firefighters per call. Independent Fire Company had an average of 6
firefighters per call.
